It was a pleasure to perform for the Department of Science and Technology Gala Dinner which took place at the Southern Sun Cape Sun Hotel on Tuesday. The Sound Image Band enjoys the challenge of covering a wide range of background and dancing music styles for all international and local guests present at an important event such as this special occasion. We were grateful to receive such a positive response for a broad selection of music requests from sophisticated Michael Buble titles to high energy Kwaito favorites!
A surprise request for Sound Image
A definite highlight was our VIP guest artist, Chief Judge Randall Rader US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, Washington DC, who arrived on stage and raised the roof with his surprise rendition of "Honky Tonk Woman" and "Wonderful Tonight" with the band!
Thanks to Master of Ceremonies and Top Billing TV presenter Michael Mol for buying us a few minutes of time to have a quick "behind the scenes" listen to a hastily downloaded mp3 of the Rolling Stones classic hit! After just 3 minutes of virtuoso keyboard player Andrew Ford's impressive transcribing skills on the back of a paper napkin during a once-off listen and the band's lightning-fast ability to cover the classic hit for the first time, we were good to go!
We had great fun performing with our guest artist and the Chief Judge's reaction of "high fives" and friendly handshakes during the standing ovation that followed provided another memorabale moment for the band!
