Yours truly (age 2 years and 6 months), relaxing in front of the camera.
Early memories which hepled to encourage an interest in music included watching and listening to my father practising on his guitar. A wide selection of guitar records from classical to jazz, played on our radiogram, did much to enhance an appreciation of good music which included the sensational new sounds of The Shadows and The Beatles!
The 1961 debut album by British group The Shadows, was the first instrumental LP by a British group to reach number one in the UK charts. The cool cover and unique guitar sounds contributed greatly to my strong early-age desire to perform with a band. In fact, the album cover must have had a subliminal effect too - I perform on an identical 1960's model Fender Precision bass guitar (pictured on the left of album cover) with Sound Image today!
A newspaper advertisement for the Classical Guitar Centre
included a photograph of a young Gary Deacon attempting
to come to grips with a large adult sized classical guitar!
